Next Step – Probiotics* in a Straw

June 7 , 2007

Unistraw International has revealed that their research and development teams are developing the world’s first multi-functional probiotic straw. With the ability to add probiotics, prebiotics and flavours to a wide range of beverages including all types of milk, juice and water; these straws are set to revolutionize the way consumers buy and consume potential health-giving probiotic bacteria. Unistraw’s debut product Sipahh Straws for Milk launched in late 2005 has created unprecedented global demand for its new, practical and original approach to flavouring milk using a similar straw technology.

The Unistraw International probiotic straws will offer all the benefits of the currently available dry format product with one key difference; it will be available in any ultra convenient liquid form.

The innovative design of the new probiotic straws will be used to extend distribution reach where probiotics can’t normally survive. The straws will have wider consumer appeal, to include those consumers who want a probiotics product that is free of dairy and lactose. The fun of drinking through a straw will also have increased appeal to children- a burgeoning target audience.

Subtract the current associated costs of hot-fill packaging and chilled distribution; add the benefits of portability, choice of flavour and choice of drink base and you get a probiotic product that will offer consumers a straw that combines health benefits with convenience and choice.

As part of the probiotics development platform, Unistraw is proud to announce it is a main sponsor of the PROBIOTECH 2007 Conference to be held on 11/12 June in Nantes, France. This probiotics industry conference, organised by Gate2Tech, has secured keynote speakers to address the scientific, regulatory and technical issues pertinent to this rapidly developing industry. The conference will also provide a great opportunity for B2B discussions.
